Explore over one hundred years of gold exploration with its successes and heartaches. Depart Kalgoorlie traveling westward along the Great Eastern Highway to Jack Carins camp. This humble dwelling may look like story book stuff but even today you will find some old prospectors still living in these conditions.

Driving onto Coolgardie learn about Ernest Giles, documented as WA’s last explorer and Warden Finnerty’s home, the man responsible for the signing of the Patrick Hannan claim in 1893.

At the Goldfields Exhibition in the Coolgardie Museum, learn about Modesto Varischetti who was trapped underground for nine days in a flooded mine and then enjoy an historical tour of the town.

Continue on to Ora Banda via the Golden Quest Discovery trail visiting the ghost town of Kunanalling along the way. At Ora Banda learn the chequered history of the area including the bombing of the hotel that was notoriously followed by the car bombing murder of its owner.

Discover the history of the State Battery built in 1913 and then drive through Grant’s Patch on the way to the Broad Arrow Hotel – home of the movie ‘The Nickel Queen’ starring Googie Withers.
